What a striking piece of furniture and wonderful instrument! This Steinway Hepplewhite console piano was manufactured shortly after the end of World War II in 1948. There was likely some celebration going on as the war was finally over and it was a time to get life "back to normal". A time to begin making music again!
You will notice the beautiful burled walnut with detailed moulding throughout the cabinet. The decorative music rack and Hepplewhite legs add an air of elegance to this piano also. It is not overstated, yet very stylish and tasteful. The dark walnut will fit in well with today's furniture trends.
The piano has its original (very clean and white) keytops. The action is not heavy and sluggish as you might expect for a piano this age; rather, it is light and "free"....a joy to play! The spruce soundboard has stood the test of time and is still in perfect condition with zero cracks or splits. I might add that, as spruce ages, it develops a tone that you just can't get from a new piece of wood. This instrument has a warm, sweet sound and will provide you with years of pleasant music!
The least expensive new Steinway vertical in walnut currently lists for $38,400 (and really doesn't have the charm and style of this piano). If you want a Made in the USA piano, if you have always dreamed of owning a Steinway, if you don't want to go to the poor house after purchasing that piano.....then you have come to the right place! For a teeny, tiny fraction of what you would pay for a new Steinway, you can own this well-seasoned instrument.
Don't hesitate, this piano won't stay around long.
