Freshly restored in a hand-rubbed walnut finish, this 5'1" Steinway model S is a beautiful piece of furniture....and a wonderful instrument!
The thorough restoration included:
• Cast iron plate stripped, refinished and detailed
• New strings and tuning pins
• New custom made pinblock
• New action (hammers, shanks, flanges & wippens)
• All brass hardware polished
• Original spruce soundboard refinished
• New keytops
• New damper felts
• Damper heads refinished
• Damper guide rails rebushed
• New Steinway fallboard logo
• New Jansen artist bench
Originally manufactured in 1936, this Steinway has been lovingly cared for. The cabinet was in excellent condition prior to the restoration, without a bunch of chips, dings, gouges or scrapes in the walnut veneer. Oftentimes, it is difficult to restore a wood-toned piano, due to the number of imperfections in the wood....and the piano ends up being patched up and refinished in ebony. Not so with this very fine specimen! When you view the photos, you will notice the beautiful grain pattern of the walnut. It really is a stunning piece.
For being a petite baby grand, the tone is warm and amazing! The original spruce soundboard is aging "to perfection" and (like many vintage guitars and violins) is acquiring a tone that you just can't find in a new piece of wood.
You need to see, play and hear this piano to truly appreciate it!
