This Sohmer designer studio piano is quite the find! American built in 1990 by skilled hands in Pennsylvania, this piano is in immaculate condition and came from a home where it has been treated with love and care.
At 45 inches tall, the piano commands a powerful tone typically found only in square institutional instruments; however, this piano is anything but square and mundane! Please browse the photos...there are so many beautiful details in the cabinet, it is hard to describe! The matching duet-size bench opens to store plenty of your music.
The heavy-duty construction includes 6 (SIX!) massive support posts. For a little piano trivia, when a piano is tuned to A-440 concert pitch, there is approximately 20 tons of pressure created that needs to be dealt with. The support posts, along with the cast iron plate, help maintain structural strength. The "quarter sawn rock maple wrest plank" (pinblock) is waterproof and further insures the tuning stability of this piano.
As you will see in the photos, the strings and pins shine like new. The hammers, dampers and action are in great condition and are ready to provide another 60 to 80 years of good music!
Unfortunately, you won't find many American-made pianos anymore. The ones you will find start around $12K....for console models! This is a taller studio piano with longer strings and a larger soundboard, which equates to a bigger, better tone.
You can search hard and long to find a vertical piano that looks and sounds as good as this one. For under $5000, you simply will not find a better quality instrument.
