PERFECT FOR A REBUILDER!!
This 1908 Steinway Model O features the windowpane legs, a detailed music rack, in the traditional satin ebony cabinet.
It was been restored some time ago....we are guessing around the 1960's or 1970's. It had a new lacquer finish, new strings and pins, some action work, etc. Ideally, this piano could use a fresh restoration. At which point, it would be a solid instrument for another 60 or 80 years.
Currently, it plays and sounds good. Better than decent, yet not great. The hammers are worn and could stand to be replaced. The keytops have yellowed and also would benefit from a fresh set. This piano is NOT a dog. It is actually better than the average Steinway awaiting restoration, but not as good as a freshly restored instrument. The finish is a C-. It could be rubbed out and, with a little touchup, would be quite nice. That alone saves between $6K and $7K on the restoration.
Just FYI: a new Steinway O (with a boring spade leg cabinet and square music rack) currently lists for $103,500. So, for only $6800, there is an EXTREME amount of upward potential in this piano!
