If you have always wanted a Steinway grand piano (and hoped for something different than the ordinary black, spade leg model), then this fancy, "ice cream cone leg" Model A in mahogany might be just the ticket!
Manufactured in 1903, this 6'1" long grand piano plays well and has a beautiful tone, featuring the original set of keytops. There is a considerable amount of fine detail to the cabinet, including an ornate set of "ice cream cone" legs. The music rack also has graceful carving, as well as the pedal lyre. You rarely find instruments with this level of craftsmanship anymore.
Over the years, this piano has seen quite a bit of restoration work, including new strings and pins, new dampers and hammers, the soundboard was repaired, and the cabinet was refinished. Our best guess is this work was done 30 years (or so) ago....the lady we got the piano from didn't know when her folks had the restoration work done.
For comparison purposes, a new Steinway Model A grand in mahogany (with the square-ish "spade" legs) currently lists for nearly $165,000....yes, you read that correctly. It would be easy to surmise the much fancier cabinet would add another $30K to $40K to the tab (if you could special order it). We are asking roughly 10% of the base price of a new mahogany, straight leg Steinway grand! You don't need to be Einstein to do this math. If your money is currently sitting in the bank, it might be better-invested in this piano...and sitting in your living room. You be the judge.
