This extremely rare and unusual Steinway grand is both a performance grade instrument as well as a decorator quality piece of furniture!
Built in 1905, this stunning 6-legged Steinway has just received a top-quality, comprehensive restoration including all new NY Steinway wippens, hammers, shanks and flanges. The mahogany cabinet was stripped and meticulously refinished in a deep burgundy hand-rubbed lacquer. The cast iron plate has been stripped, sanded, refinished and detailed. All new strings, pins and pinblock installed; new period soundboard and fallboard decals applied; new key bushings and keytops; new hammers and damper felt; all brass hardware buffed and lacquered to protect from tarnishing; tuned to A-440, voiced and regulated.
Please note: This Steinway was never a player piano and is not a stretched cabinet (which were designed to accommodate a player system). Those pianos had very "square" legs with hardly any design to them. Also, pianos that were stretched caused the key to be extra long, throwing off the touch weight once the player system wore out and was removed. This extraordinary instrument was designed to be exactly what you see in the photos: stunning, unique and wonderful!
The end result of a painstaking restoration is a piano that stands out from the crowd not just in appearance, but in the touch and quality of tone as well. Truly an exceptional instrument for the ages!
