Here's a Steinway (5'1") model S baby grand that was manufactured in 1935, which is from the Golden Age of Steinway piano production.
This instrument has a sharp-looking satin mahogany cabinet, brass hardware, and original set of keytops, a solid spruce soundboard....and one heck of a nice sound for the most petite baby grand Steinway builds! This piano will not take up a lot of space, yet will provide the quality and warmth of tone that will fill your home with beautiful music!
Never restored, you will appreciate the fantastic original condition this NY-built Steinway piano is in! There are a few light scratches on the cabinet, but it is really amazing for its age! A new Steinway will have plastic keys, unlike the original type that feel so much better.
Believe it or not, a new Steinway S in mahogany will set you back (you may need to sit down for this): $121,700! This is not a typo. Yep, they list for over $120K....and Steinway dealers usually won't whittle much off this price. They really don't need to, because you can only hand-build a certain number of pianos in a given year. So, on a global level (with populations rising every year), Steinway is doing pretty good just to keep up with demand. Now this decision is all up to you. You can pony up for $120K-plus for a new Steinway S.....or you can keep a cool $100K in your pocket and get this really nice "Golden Age" Steinway from your friends at Mid-America Piano in Manhattan, Kansas (where our overhead is low).
